What is Domain?
Domain is an identification label that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet. Domain names are also hostnames that identify Internet Protocol (IP) resources such as web sites. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS).
What is the difference between a domain and web hosting?
A domain name, is like the address of your home, web hosting on the other hand, is the space of your house where you place your furniture. Instead of street name and area code, set of words or/and numbers are used for the website is naming. The same goes with hosting, computer hard disk and computer memory are used instead of instead of wood and steel for storing as well as processing data files.
Hosting is space on a server computer that is used as the placement of data and files that exist. Domain is the address used to go where the data placement and file.
Level Domain
Top Level Domain is a row behind the word domain names such as
# .com (dotcommercial)
# .net (dotnetwork)
# .org(dotorganization)
# .edu(doteducation)
# .gov(dotgoverment)
# .mil(dotmilitary)
# .info (dotinfo)
# etc.
There are two types of Top Level Domain, the Global Top Level Domain (gTLD) and Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD). gTLD is such as that on the list above and the ccTLD is designated TLD for each country.
Second Level Domain (SLD) is the domain name you submitted. For example, the domain name you register is mydomain.com, then mydomain is SLD and .com is the TLD.
Third Level Domain is the name after the Second Level Domain. For example, the domain name you have is mydomain.com, then you can add another name before mydomain, namely mail.mydomain.com or estrex.mydomain.com. For example is domain name .co.cc
